The international relations and diplomacy program offered at the African school of diplomacy and international relations Nigeria offers a wide range of programs like the two week, three months and twelve months program qualifying students to a vast range of careers in international affairs, international development, political economy, Negotiations, human rights, international law, post- colonial studies and diplomacy.


Program Options
  • The school seeks to offer an amplitude of options that will allow students to tailor their chosen program around their particular interest, schedule and career objectives


Assessment
  • TWO WEEK PROGRAM:
    100% attendance required for certificate
    150 words essay

    THREE MONTHS PROGRAM:
    85% attendance required for certificate
    500 words essay

    TWELVE MONTHS PROGRAM:
    70% attendance require for certificate
    2500 words dissertation


Internship
  • While in the twelve months program students have the opportunity to perform an internship at the last quarter of their program in a Nigerian based organization, diplomatic/consular mission, NGO or any type of relevant international institutions


Program Aims
  • 1. To provide excellent education to students who are committed towards both the theoretical and practical underpinning of international relations and diplomacy

    2. In the shortest time possible students will be able to develop understanding and show knowledge of the nature and extent of politics, international relations and diplomacy in a contemporary global environment

    3. To provide students with an advanced understanding of international relations while simultaneously preparing them intellectually on the foundations of diplomacy


Program Structure
  • Students will have the option of three courses to choose one from
    COURSES INCLUDE:

    APPLIED INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THEORY
    • Students will understand the major theories of international relations and the purpose of theory in improving our understanding of the workings of global affairs
    • Students will develop the necessary skills to write in an informed manner on international relations theory.

    DIPLOMACY AND THE INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM
    • Introduces students to the key issues in contemporary international relations
    • Provides students with basic knowledge about two dominant patterns of behaviors in international relations and conflict cooperation

    PEACE CONFLICT AND NEGOTIATION
    • Helps students become leaders in conflict resolution and negotiation
    • Students become familiar with the range of international actors and organizations. Key issues and debates related to the theories of peace practices, of peacebuilding, conflict management and resolution and transformation.
